Recently named Heritage West, it is the point where three historic neighborhoods meet: Shawnee, Russell, and Portland. Your winning artwork will help tell the story of a vibrant community with active families, rich history, and numerous possibilities!
The Winners Are...
1st Place ($500) - Victor Sweatt, Russell Resident Artist's Description of Work: My Heritage Design reflects the unique heritage of a vibrant community and its rich history. Find family activities in Shawnee park, the Riverwalk, Dirtbowl, cyclists in Chickasaw Park, the celebration of a diverse community praying together and the rich history of semi-transparent images of "Muhammad Ali Blvd", "Sterling Orlando Neal - Memorial Overpass", and "Louis Coleman Jr. Blvd" civil right activist(s)! Art will be place on billboard at 30th and River Park Drive.
2nd Place ($300) - Nhan Phan, Central High School Student Artist's Description of Work: From history to present day, I've heard many things about the community, but the things I see are different. The school I go to, the people I met, all those factors, I can see the actual unique that include every color and how it could be in the future. Art will be used in future WLCC marketing material.
3rd Place ($100) - John Roach, Shawnee Resident Ed Hamilton, Dawne Gee, Anne Braden, Junior Bridgeman, Derek Anderson, Jimmy Ellis, Darrell Griffith, Lionel Hampton, Greg Page, most importantly, Muhammad Ali, and the list goes on and on. These are just a few of many West End greats who proved themselves and made our west end heritage proud. Our heritage is talented and rich and even filled with unknown west end talents. Art will be used in future WLCC marketing material.
